Proverbs 20:11
Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right.

Compare with Matthew 7:16-18.

Honor Parents

Proverbs 15:20
A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish man despiseth his mother.

Proverbs 19:26
He that wasteth his father, and chaseth away his mother, is a son that causeth shame, and bringeth reproach.

Proverbs 20:20
Whoso curseth his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness.

Compare with Prov 30:17. Under the old testament law, those who cursed their parents were to be stoned to death (Lev 20:9, Ex 21:17, and Deut 21:20-21).

Proverbs 23:22
Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old.

Proverbs 28:24
Whoso robbeth his father or his mother, and saith, It is no transgression; the same is the companion of a destroyer.

In Jesus time, the scribes and Pharisees condoned this very behavior. Jesus sternly rebuked them in Matthew 15:4-6 for making the commandment to honor your parents in Exodus 20:12 of no effect.

Proverbs 30:11
There is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother.

Compare 30:11 with 2 Timothy 3:1-5

Proverbs 30:17
The eye that mocketh at his father, and despiseth to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it.

Fortunately, We have been redeemed from this curse (Ga 3:13 and Acts 13:39), but still, we shouldn't disrespect our parents because it is wrong.

Known by Doings

What a shame the prodigal son didn't heed this parable (Luke 15:13, 30). As Proverbs 5:8-10 and 6:26 proclaim, keeping company with harlots will separate you from your money fast!

Receive Instruction

Proverbs 1:8-9
My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:  For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck.

Proverbs 3:1-2
My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments:  For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.

According to Exodus 20:12, God promises long life to those who honor their parents.

Proverbs 4:1-5
Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding.  For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law.  For I was my father's son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother.  He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live.  Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.

Proverbs 4:10-12
Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many.  I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right paths.  When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.

Proverbs 7:1-5
My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee.  Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye.  Bind them upon thy fingers, write them upon the table of thine heart.  Say unto wisdom, Thou art my sister; and call understanding thy kinswoman:  That they may keep thee from the strange woman, from the stranger which flattereth with her words.
