Myths About God's Healing Power

Quotes are taken from Andrew Wommack's book "You Already Got It (YAGI). "I am no longer asking God to heal me; I am receiving my healing, which He has already provided. When I pray for people, I'm no longer asking God to heal them. Instead, I'm MINISTERING healing. I'm giving them healing-the same virtue that God has placed in me" (Andrew Wommack, You Already Got It, p. 63-64).

Below is the list of some of the worst MYTHS:

  1. [Religion says, "God loves you proportional to your performance"]- That's not true, You're accepted because of what Jesus did. Ephesians 1:6, declares that you are "accepted in the beloved". Who's that? Jesus. "In whom we have redemption through the blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace" (Ephesians 1:7). If you thought your salvation had yet to be accomplished and was based upon whether or not you were good enough, you'd be convinced, "it won't work for me". But since forgiveness of sins was presented as an already done deal, you were able to receive it. Jesus bore all your sickness, diseases, and infirmities at the same time as He bore all you sins. Like forgiveness, healing is a done deal. It's just a matter of whether you can reach out by faith and receive. If you get this attitude that healing has already been done, it will manifest [Andrew Wommack, "You Already Got It"(YAGI), p. 22, p.58-59].

  2. [Self Performance]-"If you've been believing, God, I've done this, I'm doing that and I'm confessing these things and waiting for You to heal me. This wrong attitude is precisely the reason you haven't see you healing manifest (Your works will never be enough). Instead, change your thinking and receive what God has already provided. Your faith is either in Jesus and what He did (Grace) or in yourself and what you do" (Works Justification) (Wommack, YAGI, p.44, 53). "This isn't a revelation you receive once and then never have to revisit. It's the kind of understanding that must become part of your everyday Christian life" (Wommack, YAGI, p.38).

  3. [True Biblical Faith]- "If what you are calling faith is not a response to what God has already done, then it is not faith. Faith doesn't try to get God to positively respond to you. True faith is your positive response to what God has already done by grace" (Ephesians 2:8) (Wommack, YAGI, p.48).

  4. [Wrong conclusions to disappointing experiences]-"People pray for healing, thinking that faith is something they do to move God. Since there's no apparent response, they wonder, 'Why isn't God answering my prayer'? Then they start coming up with different excuses; 'Maybe He's trying to teach me something'; 'Maybe I'm not holy enough'; 'Maybe I haven't prayed enough'; 'Maybe I have sin in my life'; or 'Maybe I need to do this and that and all these other things'. No, God has already done His part" [p.57, YAGI].

  5. [Sincerity Test]-"God will evaluate your faith-whether you're SINCERE enough and have done enough and then respond to you accordingly" (This is a big myth) [p.57, YAGI]. "Most people are asking God to do for them what He's already done. They're pleading with Him to give them what He's already given. Then, after praying this way in unbelief, they wonder why they aren't seeing the physical manifestation" [p.57, YAGI].

  6. [Works Justification]-"Most people think God SIZES us up when we come to Him with a request. Depending on how much we've prayed, studied the Word, fasted, lived holy, or a multitude of other things; He either grants or rejects our request" [p.186, YAGI].

  7. [Personal Validation or Personal Acceptances From God]-Many people think that their answer or manifestation of a prayer is a personal validation or personal acceptances from God. If they don't have an answer or manifestation of a prayer; it is a personal rejection from God. They think that God evaluates them to see if they are holy enough and done everything proper; then grants the prayer request. No, the Kingdom of God operates by laws. It is nothing personal between God and the believer. God is a God of Order. In the natural realm, God has instituted many laws, such as the Law of Gravity or the Law of Electricity. If you violate these laws you have bad results. If you cooperate with these laws, you have good results. It is the same in the spiritual realm. There are spiritual Laws of God. It is not a personal thing between God and the believer, it's just spiritual laws. You have to know the Laws of God and cooperate with them. God has a good plan for ever individual but you have to cooperate with him. You have to be in agreement with God; take your authority, resist the evil and choose the good. A believer doesn't make up the laws. A believer is just a law enforcer (AWTV, The Believer's Authority, 20130110).

  8. [Holiness/Self-Righteousness Test]-You must live sinless to get God to move in your life. Or you sin is stopping God from moving in Your life. Your salvation is just the down payment on your salvation. You must make the monthly installments. If you have this attitude you are making the Cross of Jesus ineffective in your life [1 Corinthians 1:17]. You are approaching God through your personal righteousness and not through the righteousness Jesus' provides us through Grace. You are elevating yourself and not the finished work of Jesus Christ. If your Christian walk with God has become ineffectual; look for the attitudes that frustrates the grace of Christ in your life and causes the Word of God to be of "none effect"[Mark 7:13]. Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace [Galatians 5:4]. I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel [Galatians 1:6]. I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing [Galatians 5:2]. I do not frustrate the grace of God; for if righteousness comes by the law, then Christ is dead in vain [Galatians 2:21]. Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified [Galatians 2:16]. 9. [Pry Bar Concept]-"The Lord doesn't look at your praying, confessing, begging, fasting, and agreeing with other, and the other things you do as adding up to 'enough' to make Him move. Those things aren't like a pry bar that once enough pressure is applied-Boom-you can make God's power work. Wrong, by grace, God has already provided everything you need through Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection" [p.51, YAGI]. "If the manifestation doesn't come right away when I pray for healing now I don't say, God, I don't know why You haven't healed me, or this other person, yet, But we are asking you to move NOW. I don't start fasting and recruiting other people to bombard heaven with me to plead with God and make Him do it. That whole mindset is unbelief. You didn't believe you received when you prayed" [Mark 11:24, Matthew 21:22] (p.97, YAGI). "You can't force God to do anything that He hasn't-by grace-already done" (p.56, YAGI).

  10. [Blind Luck]- Some people believe that, you ask God to heal you and it's like the "rolling of the dice"; because you never know what God will do. Others believe that God's Healing Power is like the Heavenly Lottery. The more lottery tickets or prayers that you secure the better your luck. We must not forget the Heavenly chain letter system. You receive an urgent prayer request and you must pass it on to 10 more people; or something bad might happen to you.

  11. [God's Sovereignty]-"God does everything and you have nothing do with it. Your subsequent passivity will prevent what the Lord has done from manifesting in your life" [p. 68, YAGI]. "Since they think the Lord can do anything He desires, they wonder, Why isn't He healing me? If God wanted me well, He could heal me right now! So they come up with all kinds of excuses like, God is perfecting me through this trial. Wrong" (p. 57, YAGI).

  12. [God Does Whatever He Wants To Do]-Some people think that God does what every he wants to. God has no restrictions on himself. This is not what the scriptures teaches. Jesus could only heal a few sick persons in his home town of Nazareth, due to their UNBELIEF [Mark 6:5, Matthew 13:58]. Jesus was doing extraordinary miracles in other places but he couldn't do any in Nazareth [Matthew 9:35, Mark 6:53-56]. No body can restrict God in that they have power equal to or greater. But People can restrict God's move in their life because God gives everyone a FREE CHOICE. God does not flow through rejection, unbelief, doubt. You have to respond to God positively. We have to invite His miracles into our lives. It doesn't just happen at God's Will. We have to put ourselves into agreement and receive.

  13. [Faith is believing God to do something in the future]. "Real biblical faith is believing what God has ALREADY done by grace through Christ Jesus" [p. 61]. "Real faith only appropriates what Jesus has already provided. If you aren't appropriating something Jesus has already provided you through grace, then it isn't biblical faith. Biblical faith just reaches out and takes what God has already provided" (Andrew Wommack, Tape 2, You Are Got It).

  14. [Faith is the confidence that God will keep his promises to you]- NO, Healing, or any provision provided by Jesus Christ in the New Testament is not a promise of something God will do in the future; but a reality of what Jesus has already done at Calvary. All of the promises of God are YES and AMEN in Christ Jesus [2 Corinthians 1:20]. Believers aren't waiting on God to MOVE in the New Covenant. We are looking back to the Cross where Jesus said "it is finished" [John 19:30]. "Therefore I say unto you, What things so ever you desire, when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you shall have them" [Mark 11:24]. Everything in the New Testament is about RECEIVING what Jesus has already provided. That is why Jesus instructs us in so many places in the New Testament to ask and receive [Matthew 21:22, Matthew 7:7-8, Luke 11:9-10, Luke 11:13, John 14:13-14, John 15:7, John 16:23-24].

  15. [Faith moves God or God will respond and move if we are in faith]- Faith doesn't move God. He doesn't respond to what we do in faith and then move. By grace, God has already provided everything" [p.51, 47 YAGI].

  16. [Confession moves God]- "Confession doesn't make God move. You're wrong if you think reciting 'By His stripes I am healed', 599 times will force God to heal you. You can't make God do anything! Faith doesn't move Him. God-by grace-has already moved as much as He's going to. He's already provided everything. Your need was abundantly supplied before you even had it. Since the Lord has already done it, you confess God's Word to encourage your own heart and drive off the devil [Matthew 4:10-11]. It might take confessing that Word 599 times before you actually believe [Romans 10:17]. [p. 66, YAGI]

  17. [Faith is something you do, and sooner or later God will respond and grant healing]- "No, that's not Bible faith. You must believe that God has already done it. Then-by faith-reach over into the spirit realm and take what's rightfully yours. You must understand how grace and faith work together to bring into manifestation of what God has already provided" (p.62-63, YAGI) [Ephesians 2:8].

  18. [It takes a huge amount of faith to receive from God]. "No it just take a pure, simple childlike faith. However most Christians are baptized in unbelief. We're still so plugged into the world's negativity that it's a miracle our faith has accomplished what it has" [p. 210]. "Drain you unbelief to zero, and you'll find your faith strong enough to accomplish anything you need" [p.207, YAGI].

  19. [Believing you need GREAT FAITH to get God to do something]. "Your faith only needs to be the size of a mustard seed to get the job done...Faith is the bridge that brings God's provision from the spiritual world over into the physical world. Faith must be present, but its not that big of deal. It's not hard. As Christians, we have the supernatural faith of God [Galatians 2:20, Galatians 2:16, Acts 3:16]. It's just that most believers haven't yet realized or dealt with their unbelief" [p.207, YAGI].

  20. [O God, give me more faith, I need more faith]. "The Lord said , it's your unbelief that's the problem [Matthew 17:20]. Without unbelief working against it, your faith doesn't need to be any bigger than a mustard seed to get the job done". Instead of trying to shoot your faith through the roof, pull the plug on your unbelief. drain it to zero, and you'll find your faith strong enough to accomplish anything you need" [p. 207, YAGI]

  21. [Certain demons are stronger than others and can only be cast out with prayer and fasting]. "You will never encounter any demon or the devil himself that want COWER and flee at the Name of Jesus and faith in His name. Your prayer and fasting doesn't add anything to it. If the name of Jesus and faith in His Name won't defeat the devil, neither will your prayer and fasting. UNBELIEF is the consistent subject of both verses in (Matthew 17:20-21). Therefore Jesus was saying this type of unbelief-natural unbelief can only come out by much prayer and fasting" [p. 216, YAGI]

  22. [It is unbelief to pray for something twice]. "It is if you ask twice. Then at least one of the two times, you prayed in unbelief. You must believe that you receive [Mark 11:24]. However, it's not unbelief to continue to pray, taking your authority, aggressively releasing your faith to deal with any hindrance, and draw the provision into the physical realm" (p. 107- 109, YAGI)

  23. [When praying for others, just pray down the line and never look back, because you might slip into unbelief]. "This works to a degree. Some good things do happen, but that method is fraught with all kind of problems because most people's faith-without manifestation over time-become weaker, not stronger. If they don't see the manifestation in a certain amount of time, give into discouragement, doubt, and unbelief" (p. 101, YAGI).

  24. [In ministering to another person, their faith doesn't matter]. "If you are praying for someone else, there needs to be a degree of faith on their part. It doesn't have to be fifty-fifty. If you're strong in faith, you can carry someone. If they're in neutral, you can push them. But if they are in park with the emergency brake on or in reverse fighting against you…then you won't be able to make it happen. You can't make them receive on your faith alone" (54-55, 105, 197, YAGI) [Mark 6:5, Matthew 13:58, Matthew 9:27-28, Acts 14:9].

  25. "You must understand how grace and faith work together to bring into manifestation of what God has already provided" (p.62-63, YAGI) [Ephesians 2:8]. Search for the areas in your thinking that you have been deceived from the simplicity that is in Christ [2 Corinthians 11:3]. The deception is usually in the areas of "grace and faith". Look for thoughts and false perceptions that frustrates the grace of Christ in your life; or make the Cross of Jesus ineffectual; and causes the Word of God to be of none effect [Galatians 2:21, 1 Corinthians 1:17, Mark 7:13, Galatians 5:4].

  26. "The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law" (1 Corinthians 15:56). But wait, Jesus bore our sins in His own body on the tree [1 Peter 2:24]. The believer in Jesus Christ in not under the law but UNDER GRACE [Romans 6;14, Ephesians 1:7 ]. We are dead to sin but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord [Romans 6:11, Ephesians 2:4-10]. The believer has been made FREE from sin through Jesus Christ [Romans 6:18, 22].
